This page lists the cookies and similar technologies used on techlude.com, what each one does, how long it lasts, and how you can control them. It works alongside our Privacy Policy.
The short version
- Our own cookies run features like bookmarks, comment details and view counts. None of them follow you to other websites.
- Google sets advertising cookies for the ads we show, and YouTube sets cookies when a page with one of our videos loads.
- Retailers like Amazon set their own cookies after you click an affiliate link.
- You can turn off personalised ads in Google Ads Settings and block or delete cookies in your browser.
What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a website saves in your browser so it can remember something between pages or visits. “Local storage” works in a similar way but stays on your device and isn’t sent to our server automatically. In this policy, “cookies” covers both.
Cookies we set
These first-party cookies are set by techlude.com itself.
| Cookie | What it does | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|
RBUUID | A random identifier that remembers your bookmarked articles and followed topics, and powers related recommendations. | About 2 months |
personalize_sync, syncTimeout | Keep your saved items in sync between your browser and our server. | Up to 2 months, and 1 day |
comment_author_*, comment_author_email_*, comment_author_url_* | Remember your name, email and website for your next comment. Set only if you tick the box under the comment form. | 1 year |
pvc_visits | Stops our view counter from counting the same article twice in a day. | 24 hours |
wordpress_*, wp-settings-*, wfwaf-authcookie-* | Sign-in and security cookies for Techlude team accounts only. Readers never get these. | Session to 14 days |
Data stored on your device
| Name | What it does | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|
RubyDarkMode | Remembers whether you chose light or dark mode. | Until you clear it |
RBUUID | A copy of the random identifier used for bookmarks and recommendations. | Until you clear it |
Notification keys (for example *-notification-count) | Remember which site notifications you’ve already seen. | Until you clear it |
